  The Rio Ruidoso

The Village of Ruidoso took it's name from the Rio Ruidoso, which means "Noisy Water" in Spanish.      "Noisy Water" adequately describes the Rio Ruidoso as it cascades some 6000 vertical feet over its 30 mile course.

Classified by the State of New Mexico as a high quality cold water fishery, The Rio Ruidoso is a favorite of fly fishermen from far and wide. Two species of German brown trout, as well as rainbow trout, brook trout, and even some cut-throats can be found in its cool waters.
